Top Five Books I Wish Had Sequels

Top Ten Five Tuesday

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

I have been missing these for far too long! And this week’s turned out to be a difficult one for me; Top ten stories you wish had sequels.  What I discovered was that most of what I have read in the past three years have all been part of or beginnings to series! Guess I found a gigantic hole in my reading… So, for now I only have five until I can remedy this situation:

The Princess Bride The Princess Bride by William Goldman

I loved this book so, so much and really want to read MORE! (I suppose it’s been long enough since I read it last that it could do with a re-read though ; ) High adventure and some fantasy mixed with romance and humor. Perfect.

Avalon HighAvalon High by Meg Cabot

Technically this does have a sequel, but the sequel (or sequels?) are graphic novels and I’m just not into them. I loved the book and I can’t see myself enjoying a graphic novel half as well. Romance, modern day King Arthur re-telling = awesome.

The Night CircusThe Night Circus Erin Morgenstern

This story was magical and I wanted to crawl inside of it; I could do with more of this story… or at least something similar by the author.

StardustStardust by Neil Gaiman

An amazing story I never wanted to end, so yes, I would love another one in this world!

Magyk (Septimus Heap, #1)Septimus Heap Saga by Angie Sage

I love this series, but it’s over now : ( I’m hopeful there will be future books in this world though because of some hints at the end of the last book which would be great!

What are some stories you just wanted to see more books of?

P.S. Don’t forget that the 10th Pink Carnation book, Passion of the Purple Plumeria, by Lauren Willig comes out today!!

  1. I had to dig deep to get my full list of top ten! I wonder if we all just started reading series, or if the publishing industry just started pushing them like crazy!

Why have I not read The Princess Bride yet? Great list!

I would Love to read a sequel to The Night Circus! I definitely still need to read The Princess Bride… Ultimate shame. I have also yet to read anything by Meg Cabot – I don’t know how I can call myself a book lover (Don’t tell anyone, I’ll lose my street cred). I have read the first book by Angie Sage – it was really cute! 🙂

Lol….The Princess Bride is great, I think you would like it! It’s okay about not reading any Cabot yet (I say yet because I’m sure you will at some point 🙂 ) There are tons of authors I am ashamed I haven’t read yet…

  4. I completely agree with you about Avalon High! I wish that had been a series. Other than that, and Stardust, I haven’t read any of the books you have on this list.
I have been wanting to read The Night Circus for aaaages, because everyone is saying that it’s fantastic. And it must be, if you want it to have a sequel 😀
    My Top Ten post 🙂

Someday I may give those graphic novels by Cabot a try just so I can see how Avalon High progressed (and to broaden my reading horizons…) I hope you enjoy The Night Circus when you get around to it! Some people seem to love it or hate it…

I really need to read Stardust and The Princess Bride! They have been on my TBR list forever. 🙂 Great list!

  6. Charleen says:

Have you read the anniversary edition of The Princess Bride that actually has the first few chapters of a sequel in it? It’s called Buttercup’s Baby and it’s bad. (Not to say that a good sequel wouldn’t be possible… if Goldman actually wrote one instead of pretending he was writing one.)

    • Steph says:

Oh interesting! No, I haven’t read that edition. I’ll have to see if I can dig one up at the library. I remember him joking about a sequel called Buttercup’s Baby in the one I read, I didn’t realize he actually (sorta) followed through… I want to read it now just to see how strange it is! Thanks for letting me know 🙂

      • Charleen says:

The one I have is the 30th anniversary edition (and I lied, it’s only one chapter). It’s kind of funny just in that the author is continuing the joke that there really is an S. Morgenstern and Florin and Guilder are real places and all that… but it didn’t make me want to read more.

  7. I also had The Night Circus in my list, I absolutely loved that book!

    My TTT

  8. Jillyn says:

The Princess Bride was a great pick, I should have thought of that!

    My TTT.

  9. Romi Foster says:

The Princess Bride YES! I added that to my list, as well- it’s such an exquisite book, hilarious and just so heart-warming. It has everything, and an amazing movie to boot!
