Top Ten Books I Would Like to See Made Into Perfect Movies

Hosted by the Broke and the Bookish

The Night CircusThe Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

I thought this was going to be a movie…I don’t think a movie will ever do this book justice, but if it could it would be the best movie ever 🙂

The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart

This would be such an awesome kid’s adventure movie! It would be inspiring and fun…and hopefully encourage reading?

Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1)Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

If the casting was done right, these could be spectacular! Given time, I will think up my favorite cast…has anyone cast this series already?

Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

These would be fun to watch…if the casting is done right, it can be a-mazing! Fast paced, action packed, with a fairy tale edge; pretty darn close to perfect.

The Eyre Affair (Thursday Next #1)The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde

I would love to see the Book World come to life! This could be such a cool movie…

Peter and the Starcatchers by Steve Barry and Ridley Pearson

Another awesome kid’s adventure movie. A movie about how Peter Pan became Peter Pan….it would be epic!

Magyk (Septimus Heap, #1)Magyk by Angie Sage

These would be so neat to see as movies.  The books have really neat creatures and magic throughout them along with very vibrant characters.  It would be great to see it on the big screen.

Redone Books to Movies (ones that were butchered, but could be done so much better!):

Eragon (Inheritance, #1)Eragon by Christopher Paolini

The books were full of action and are un-put-downable, however, the movie was boring to me.

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

I’m sorry, but that was not my Ethan Wate on the big screen.  My Ethan was sweeter and softer. And there was no KELTING in the movie! Ugh..I’m donating my DVD to a library sale.

IInkheart (Inkworld, #1)nkheart by Cornelia Funke

This could have been an epic movie saga…I don’t quite know what happened (or what happened to my copy, I just realized it’s missing!).

Got any ideas on casting???

  1. I can’t believe I forgot The Night Circus! It would make a stunning movie. I’ve been meaning to read The Eyre Affair while I think we actually have a copy of Sage’s Magyk somewhere in the house; I should look for that.

I totally agree re: Eragon…it was pretty bad =S

The Night Circus could be so magical and pretty, I’d love to see it on the big screen. And I really enjoyed the Magyk series, it’s just a fun escape-your-everyday-life read

  2. The Night Circus would make a good movie, but they would probably destroy the story

    • Steph says:

True. I can see how it would be one of those movies where if you didn’t read the book first, you would be really confused. Especially since they would concentrate on the imagery.

Eragon , Beautiful Creatures, and Inkheart have all been turned into movies, horrible movies so I wouldn’t mind a decent remake, but I think because they were so badly done, the chance of the rest of the series getting a chance to be a movie is slim. :/

If The Night Circus could be done well I would love to see it become a movie. I know the rights have been bought, but who knows what will become of it.

It is really sad about those series not getting carried through until the end in movie format because they were such duds. If they had the chance to be re-made they could be so awesome!

The Night Circus would be a brilliant movie because of its setting. Great choices.

I totally agree that The Lunar Chronicles on screen would be amazing! But I kinda want to read all the books before they start filming. I guess I don’t want the casting to influence my ideas of the characters, but of course, if they do it right, I won’t have anything to worry about. =)

I remember watching Eragon, but I didn’t read the book so I’m not sure how it compares. I probably should read the book. 😉

    • Steph says:

That’s a good idea about reading all of the books first! Sometimes I wish they wouldn’t film a series until all of the books were out, just so the directors and script writers really know what’s important.
And I definitely recommend reading Eragon 🙂

The Lunar Chronicles would make a great series of films! Made my list, too. 🙂

I totally agree with The Night Circus! I just don’t see how the movie could ever be as good as this book! I would also like to see The Lunar Chronicle by Marissa Meyer.. again, if they wouldn’t ruin the whole story.

  8. Inkheart was one of my favourite books when I was younger! I recently tried to get my little brother to read it actually. Have you seen the movie they already did for it? I don’t think it was very popular but I didn’t mind it, although a lot was left out sadly.

    • Steph says:

Good luck getting your brother to read it! I tried getting my little sister to and she stubbornly refused (not into the whole “reading” thing yet). I have seen the movie and thought I actually owned it. I did enjoy the movie itself, but it could have been soooo much better and more magical I think. The casting was great in my opinion, but the movie part, not so spectacular.

“The Eyre Affair” is lots of good fun. I exhausted myself though trying to work out all of the literary references. They might have to change the names of the Goliath baddies though to get past the censors. Here’s my T10T

I’ve seen so many TTT including The Night Circus, looks like I’ve got another book to add to my TBR list! And I definitely agree with Eragon and Beautiful Creatures!

  11. Charleen says:

    Hmm, The Night Circus…

I think this is one of those where the movie could be even better than the book, because the magical descriptions are really what make the book and it would be amazing to see it all brought to life. However, I don’t know if it could be a truly faithful interpretation and be successful, since the plot is almost secondary to the atmosphere. Personally, I’d be happy with it as long as it kept the same spirit as the book, and really did justice to the descriptions of the circus.

  12. They should DEFINITELY remake Inkheart and Eragon! They both had so much potential, but for some reason, they did not turn out very entertaining. It’s a shame, because the books were awesome.

Shadow and Bone is one I definitely should be reading soon… The fact that you think it would make a good movie makes me want to pick it up even more!
